Men Breakup With Me When I Tell Them I’m Celibate

Dear Lady. Ann:

I am a 30-year old virgin. I am very beautiful and have a very good job. I decided to keep myself till my wedding night. Whenever things get serious with a guy and I tell him I don’t intend to have sex before marriage, they instantly stop reaching out to me. I know sex is very important in a relationship, but I believe it is too precious to just give it to just anyone.

I have heard stories of couples who waited to have sex till their wedding night, but it seems like that is never going to be my story. I recently met this really great guy and I decided not to tell him about my decision to be celibate yet. We had great chemistry and he kept saying I was everything he ever wanted. I have met his family and he’s been around mine too. We spoke about the kind of future we wanted for our kids and so many other plans.

My birthday was last weekend and he wanted us to travel somewhere nice together. I loved the idea and started planning ahead of it. When we got there last weekend, we were in the same room and he had them make the room look so romantic. I loved it and appreciated the effort. But later that night, things got steamy and I had to stop him. I let him know I really love him and would love to wait till we were married to have sex. He said he admired my discipline and would support my decision. But since we got back, he has been acting different. He says he has just been busy, but I am very familiar with this pattern. I really love this guy and I don’t know what I would do if he ends our relationship. Is it really a bad idea to wait till I get married to have sex?
