Dear Lady, Ann:
I love my boyfriend a lot. We have been together for 10 months, but we have recently been arguing a lot. My best friend is a guy and we have been friends for 15 years. We have been through thick and thin together, but there has never been anything sexual between us. My boy friend thinks a guy and a girl can not be friends for that long without being involved with each other. I think that’s some bull shit.
I love and respect my best friend. I have other friends, but he is my best friend. He has had girls in the past and we still remained friends. I could never end our friendship, ever! There were times in the past that his exes wanted him to cut me off, but he never did. I feel my boyfriend is just being insecure. I have introduced him to my best friend and I try to include him in most of our conversations.
But I am beginning to get irritated with how he questions my every move. He wants to be there everytime I hang out with my best friend. He wants to know everything we talk about. He wants me to ask for his permission before hanging out with my best friend. We got into a fight last night because I wouldn’t show him my text messages. There are things my best friend tells me that is a secret. I could never betray his trust like that, not even for the man I love. My boyfriend thinks the messages would prove I am cheating, hence why he insists on seeing them. I love my man, but I need a way to handle this jealousy. Please help!
